Early Childhood Screening

A student doing a hearing testThe Rochester Public School’s Early Childhood Screening team takes great pride in making each screening a fun and interactive experience. We recommend you schedule this screening soon after your child’s 3rd birthday. Screening at a younger age helps us identify any hearing, vision, or developmental needs your child may have. We can also connect you with resources to ensure your child is fully prepared for life’s upcoming milestones!

  • Rochester Public Schools provides free comprehensive developmental screening for any child three years old to kindergarten enrollment.

  • The screening staff will check your child's:

    • Vision

    • Hearing

    • Developmental skills

    • Immunization status

    • Growth

  • At your child's screening, we'll help connect you with resources in Rochester to help your child prepare for school!

  • The State of Minnesota requires all children to complete a developmental screening before entering public kindergarten programs.

  • This screening is not a kindergarten readiness test, and it's different from a routine exam at the doctor's.

Screening helps a school district identify children who may benefit from district and community resources available to help their development. It is important for the screening to be done in the language spoken in your home. We are happy to arrange for an interpreter to attend your child’s screening. Request an interpreter when you register. Transportation can be provided to get you and your child to the screening. Just let us know when you register.

Schedule your screening today at www.rochesterce.org/early-childhood-screening or by calling 507.328.4004.

We look forward to seeing you soon!
